The first Islamic German language newspaper published its first monthly edition last Friday and is considered to be the first media platform for the Islamic community in Austria with a population of around 400,000. The editor-in-chief of ‘Al-Muslima’ newspaper, Dr. Amir Zaidain, said the issuance of this newspaper, which is not related to any party or faction in the country, aims at educating the Austrian society in particular and the European society in general over the true essence of Islam. Zaidan, also the General Director of the Islamic Religious Teaching Institute in Vienna, said the newspaper will highlight the mistakes found in and out of the Islamic circle and try to treat them in an independent way. He hoped his 16-page monthly newspaper that covered political, educational and Islamic topics would become a weekly newspaper in time. Up to 20,000 issues were published last Friday in its first stage and Zaidan hoped this number would reach 100,000 in the next edition. (Kuwait News Agency,November 01, 2006)
