Following strong protests from fundamentalist groups, the much-hyped Playboy Indonesia has decided to delay its second edition for security reasons, the magazine’s chief editor said Thursday. Speaking to reporters after being questioned for over four hours at city police headquarters, Erwin Arnada could not say when Playboy would put out its next edition. Arnada was summoned by police in connection with a lawsuit filed by the Indonesian Anti Piracy and Pornography Society (MAPPI) on April 7. The group claimed that Playboy’s publisher, PT Velvet Silber Media, had violated the Criminal Code article on indecency. Police are investigating vandalism allegedly perpetrated by members of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI). Last week, the group staged a noisy rally and vandalised the building housing Playboy’s office. Because of the violent protest, Playboy’s management decided to move its office. Arnada said 26 corporate advertisers involved in the first issue said they would not continue placing ads because of the protests. (The Jakarta Post, Islam-online.net,April 21, 2006)
