Brazil moved toward adopting a high-definition TV system based on the Japanese standard, choosing it over the US and the European standards. The foreign ministers of Brazil and Japan have signed a memorandum of understanding in Tokyo to work toward the introduction of Japan’s ISDB-T standard, Mainichi Daily News reports. Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Celso Amorim, said the memorandum will make Japanese firms commit to training local staff and will allow Brazilian companies to use the technology without paying royalties.
